Sexual and reproductive health care services for students

IGU offers free educational programmes throughout the academic year to raise students’ awareness of sexual and reproductive health rights.

The university has published a Reproductive and Sexual Health Education Booklet, which introduces students to fundamental rights such as privacy, equality, protection from discrimination, access to accurate information, and availability of safe reproductive health services. In addition, a number of informative and awareness-raising events were organized in this context:

  • The university organised the event titled “Prevention First” on 28 November 2024, aiming to enhance students’ awareness of infectious diseases, sexual health, hygiene, and preventive methods. The event focused on improving health literacy and emphasised the importance of preventive health services both at the individual and societal levels, encouraging participants to adopt healthy lifestyle behaviours.
  • On 2 December 2024, the university held an event entitled “Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV/AIDS”, addressing the modes of transmission, prevention strategies, early diagnosis, and anti-stigmatisation approaches. This event aimed to raise awareness of public health protection.

Furthermore, through the university’s Medico-social Unit, students have access to consultation services with an on-campus physician and nurse on general health matters, including those related to sexual and reproductive health. This unit provides an easily accessible referral point for health-related concerns.

To further promote awareness, IGU has integrated a course titled “Sexual Health” into its undergraduate elective curriculum. This course covers key concepts in sexual health, individual rights, privacy, safe living skills, and access to healthcare services, aiming to improve students’ knowledge and understanding in this field.
