17.4.3 Education for SDGs in the Wider Community

IGU aims to promote education and raise awareness across society in line with the SDGs. In this context, the educational programmes to be organized will raise awareness among communities, individuals, and institutions regarding environmental, social, and economic sustainability. By engaging not only its student and academic communities but also local and national communities, IGU aims to establish a strong educational foundation for sustainable development. These educational activities will mobilize all stakeholders and contribute to creating a fairer, more equitable, and environmentally friendly society.

Sustainability Academy

The IGU Sustainability Academy is a platform that aims to raise awareness of environmental, social, and economic sustainability. The Academy offers various educational programmes, seminars, and activities designed to promote sustainable lifestyles among students and the wider community. By aiming to cultivate sustainable leaders, the Academy encourages social change through various projects that seek to develop environmentally conscious individuals with a strong sense of social responsibility. Positive Behaviours in Adolescents 26.12.2025: This seminar, held at Bahçeşehir Gökkuşağı College, focuses on promoting positive behaviours among adolescents. The programme aims to support healthy psychosocial development while promoting the adoption of these behaviours in educational settings in line with the principles of sustainability.
 
School-Based Sexual Abuse 26.12.2025: This seminar, organised in collaboration with Kağıthane Science and Art Centre and Kağıthane Guidance and Research Centre (RAM), addresses the issue of school-based sexual abuse. The programme aims to strengthen child protection processes in line with the principles of sustainability.
 
School-Based Sexual Abuse 25.12.2025: This seminar, held at Şahinbey Guidance and Research Centre, addresses school-based sexual abuse, focusing on awareness-raising and intervention processes. The programme aims to strengthen child protection systems in line with the principles of sustainability.
 
Positive Psychology Practices in Schools 23.12.2025: This seminar, organised in collaboration with IGU and Arnavutköy Guidance and Research Centre (RAM), addresses positive psychology practices in schools. Peer Bullying and Peer Kindness 09.12.2025: This seminar, held at Zeytinburnu İDMİB Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, aims to raise students’ awareness of peer bullying and peer kindness. The programme contributes to strengthening a safe school climate while seeking to promote positive behaviours in line with the principles of sustainability.
 
Children’s Rights and the Value of Children 09.12.2025: This seminar, held at Bahçelievler Gökkuşağı College, aims to raise awareness of children’s rights and the value of children. The programme contributes to the rights-based protection of children and aims to integrate this approach into educational settings in line with the principles of sustainability.
 
Büyükçekmece Atatürk Anatolian High School Sustainability Workshop 05.12.2025 - 06.12.2025: This sustainability workshop, held at Büyükçekmece Atatürk Anatolian High School, aims to raise environmental awareness among students and educators. The programme seeks to contribute to fostering informed individuals in line with the principles of sustainability.
 
FUTURESCOPE Sustainability Festival 05.12.2025 - 06.12.2025: As part of the International Sustainable Short Film Festival organised in collaboration with IGU, this event encourages young filmmakers to explore themes of sustainability and environmental responsibility through cinematic storytelling. The programme, attended by academics, teachers, and students, aims to increase public awareness and promote environmental consciousness in line with the principles of sustainability.
 
Intervention, Interviewing, and Legal Reporting in School-Based Sexual Abuse Cases 20.11.2025: This seminar, organised by Esenler Guidance and Research Centre, addresses intervention in school-based sexual abuse cases, interviewing techniques, and legal reporting procedures. OFF-CAMPUS LIFELONG LEARNING PROGRAMS

IGUSEM, the Continuing Education Application and Research Center, announced training programs and seminars throughout 2025 in various fields, including personal development, professional competencies, digital literacy, health, family education, and career development. These activities, covering a wide range of topics, are important in terms of supporting lifelong learning, developing knowledge and skills, and increasing access to educational opportunities for different age and occupational groups. The training programs can be associated particularly with SDG 4 (Quality Education) through their support for lifelong learning opportunities. Activities addressing digital security, parenting, psychological well-being, and disability can also be linked to other Sustainable Development Goals, depending on their content. In 2025, IGU supported inter-institutional cooperation and knowledge sharing through activities carried out in collaboration with educational institutions and Guidance and Research Centres. Within this scope, seminars for high school students, professional training programmes for guidance counsellors, and awareness-raising activities on children's rights were organised. These activities, conducted with the participation of various institutions, strengthened the university's engagement with its stakeholders in the field of education and provide examples that can be linked to SDG 4 and SDG 17.

Winter School Academy
 
IGU organises various hands-on workshops to support high school students in exploring different academic disciplines and discovering their professional interests. These activities, conducted in a range of fields, including health sciences, engineering, aviation, gastronomy, information technology, and design, contribute to students’ acquisition of practical learning experiences and the development of awareness regarding career planning. These initiatives, which strengthen the university’s engagement with society, can be linked to SDG 4 through the promotion of lifelong learning and expanded educational opportunities. INTERNATIONAL STUDENT OFFICE ACTIVITIES
 
IGU’s International Student Office carries out numerous promotional and representation activities throughout the year, both in Türkiye and abroad, to enhance the university’s global visibility, strengthen international student diversity, and develop academic collaborations. Through participation in fairs, school visits, campus tours, and consular relations, the Office reaches prospective students from various regions, particularly Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. By establishing strong ties with diverse cultures, it promotes international cooperation in line with the Sustainable Development Goals. These activities contribute to the development of multi-stakeholder global partnerships under SDG 17. 2025 Activities – International Student Office
  • 10–14.01.2025 – Dakar / Senegal: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by the Maarif Foundation. During the fair, meetings were held with prospective students, their families, and local education agencies to provide information about IGU’s academic programmes, application procedures, and campus facilities. The activity contributed to increasing the university’s international visibility in Senegal and strengthening relationships with local education agencies.
  • 18–19.01.2025 – Moscow / Russia: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by En Group Educational Consultancy. At the fair, which brought together a total of 10 Turkish universities, meetings were held with prospective students, their families, and local education agencies to promote IGU’s academic programmes, admission requirements, and campus facilities. The activity contributed to increasing the university’s recognition in the Russian market and strengthening communication with education agencies.
  • 23–25.01.2025 – Jeddah and Riyadh / Saudi Arabia: As part of the Turkish Universities Education Fair, individual meetings were held with students wishing to pursue higher education in Türkiye and their families at events organised in both cities. Information was provided on Turkish universities, academic programmes, scholarship opportunities, application procedures, and visa processes. The events supported efforts to increase the visibility of Turkish higher education in Saudi Arabia and establish direct communication with prospective students.
  • 27–30.01.2025 – Islamabad and Lahore / Pakistan: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by the Maarif Foundation. During the fair, meetings were held with prospective students, their families, and local education agencies to promote IGU’s academic programmes, admission procedures, and campus facilities. An official meeting was also held with a member of parliament in Lahore. This engagement contributed to the development of the university’s institutional relations and academic diplomacy activities in Pakistan.
  • 07–11.02.2025 – Casablanca and Marrakesh / Morocco: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by Askunicom Agency. During the fair, meetings were held with prospective students, their families, and local education agencies, and IGU’s academic programmes, application procedures, and educational opportunities were promoted. In addition, meetings with new education agencies aimed to expand the university’s student recruitment network in Morocco.
  • 12–14.02.2025 – Dubai / United Arab Emirates: Participation in the ICEF Dubai 2025 event for education agencies and business partners. Meetings were held with approximately 30 agencies from the international education sector to promote IGU’s undergraduate and graduate programmes. Discussions addressed the development of existing collaborations, the establishment of new partnerships, and international student recruitment strategies. The event contributed to expanding the university’s international education network and strengthening its promotional activities, particularly in the Middle East market.
  • 15.02.2025 – Doha / Qatar: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair.   • 21–23.02.2025 – Abuja / Nigeria: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by ASKUNI Agency. Meetings were held with prospective students, their families, and local education agencies to provide information about IGU’s academic programmes, admission procedures, campus facilities, and career opportunities. The fair served as an important promotional platform for increasing the university’s visibility in Nigeria and strengthening its relationships with local education agencies.
  • 24–27.02.2025 – Addis Ababa / Ethiopia: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by Multico Agency. Throughout the fair, meetings were held with prospective students, their families, and local education agencies to provide information about IGU’s academic programmes and application procedures. The activity supported efforts to enhance the university’s international visibility in East Africa and develop its communication network with education agencies.
  • 08–10.04.2025 – Istanbul / Türkiye: Participation in the Eurasian Higher Education Summit (EURIE 2025). At the summit, which brought together international higher education institutions, education agencies, and industry stakeholders, IGU’s academic programmes were promoted, and discussions were held on student mobility, institutional partnerships, and international student recruitment strategies. The event contributed to expanding the university’s international academic network and developing existing collaborations.
  • 09.04.2025 – Almaty and Astana / Kazakhstan: Participation in the Kazakhstan Education Fair. Prospective students were provided with information about IGU’s academic programmes, admission procedures, and campus life. Direct meetings with students provided insights into their academic interests and programme preferences. The activity contributed to increasing the university’s recognition in Kazakhstan and supporting its international student recruitment efforts.
  • 10–11.04.2025 – Kazakhstan: Meetings were held with students and school representatives as part of a high school visit and mini education fair. IGU’s academic programmes, application procedures, and educational opportunities were introduced, and students’ questions were answered. The activity contributed to strengthening relationships with schools in the region and informing prospective students about higher education options.
  • 14–15.04.2025 – Amman / Jordan: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by Unizone Education. Students considering studying in Türkiye and their families were provided with information about academic programmes, registration and admission procedures, scholarship opportunities, and student visa requirements. The event supported the university’s promotional activities in Jordan and its communication with prospective students.
  • 20–25.04.2025 – Riyadh / Saudi Arabia: International school visits and mini education fair activities were carried out as part of the Hala Schools Tour 2025, organised by Uranus Education. Students planning to pursue higher education abroad were provided with information about Turkish universities, academic programmes, admission requirements, scholarship opportunities, and application procedures. The activity contributed to establishing direct communication with the target student group and supporting potential applications.
  • 19.04.2025 – Casablanca / Morocco: Participation in the Turkish Universities Promotion Fair organised by Eket Fuarcılık. Prospective students were provided with information about academic programmes, admission requirements, application procedures, scholarship opportunities, and student life in Türkiye. The event aimed to increase the university’s visibility in Morocco and support potential student applications.
  • 27–30.04.2025 – Jakarta and Medan / Indonesia: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by Maarif Agency and Edutolia. In addition to the fairs held in both cities, a high school visit and a B2B mini fair were organised in Jakarta. Through these events, more than 2,500 prospective students were reached and provided with information about academic programmes, application and admission procedures, scholarship opportunities, and education and life in Türkiye. An increase in applications from Indonesian students following these activities was reported. These efforts contributed to enhancing the university’s recognition in Southeast Asia and strengthening its relationships with education agencies.
  • 07–11.05.2025 – Nairobi / Kenya: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by the Maarif Foundation. Meetings were held with prospective students, their families, and local education agencies to promote IGU’s academic programmes, application procedures, and campus facilities. The activity contributed to increasing the university’s international visibility in Kenya and developing its relationships with local education stakeholders.
  • 15–18.05.2025 – Bamako / Mali: Participation in the Turkish Universities Education Fair organised by ASKUNI. Meetings were held with prospective students holding Blue Cards and residing in Istanbul, as well as international student candidates from Central Asia and the Middle East. Participants were provided with information about IGU’s academic programmes, admission requirements, and application procedures. The event supported the university’s efforts to establish direct communication with its target international student groups and recruit prospective students.
